1/20/2003 Skill based system for Poker.com Inc. Poker.com Inc recently announced that it planned to purchase a skill based system of online gaming which includes the games of Skill Poker and Skill BlackJack from Blue Diamond International Capital Inc. of Switzerland. The provisional patent application that Poker.com plans to buy covers a system of determining the skill level in a tournament setting for many different card games including all forms of poker. Despite US gaming laws, Poker.com Inc. has stated that it intends to operate an online poker card room based in the US and market it directly to players in the US, Canada and across the globe. Using the provisional patent to develop and then operate its own skill based poker games rooms, it claims that it will be acting within the parameters of legal skill based gaming as set forth by various jurisdictions in both the US and Canada. Mark Glusing, President of Poker.com Inc. explains, "Certain jurisdictions in the U.S and Canada look upon the wagering of skill based games as not contravening gambling laws. Management considers the Skill Poker system as one of these skill based games." Gaming expert, Professor I. Nelson Rose, has been retained by the company to provide an opinion as to the general legality of the Skill Poker system. If the company succeeds, it could be the first to operate servers legally on US soil. |
