10/6/2001 The nominations for best and worst Las Vegas casinos
At the recent Global Gaming Expo, a panel of Las Vegas-based gamblers and gambling experts were put on the spot to rate the best and worst Las Vegas casinos, from the bettor?s perspective.
Ranking the casinos on their slot clubs, comps, payouts and customer service, the six-person panel gave their expert opinion.
According to Henry Tamburin, a casino table games author and expert, the best Las Vegas properties and casino-operating companies both ?give (gamblers) value for their dollar, and they treat people right.? The worst casinos, however, simply do not provide value and good customer service.
The nominations for best casinos were?.
For best casino?Coast Resorts and MGM Mirage casinos were selected by the experts.
"Coast is extraordinarily effective," said Anthony Curtis, publisher of the Las Vegas Advisor. Their Suncoast casino was admired for its ticket-in, ticket-out coinless slot machines.
MGM Mirage, and the Goldent Nugget in particular, were credited with providing superb customer service, and offering visitors excellent value.
The losers were?. The off-Strip Rio took a serious beating. Said Curtis, ?Every time they do something good, they raise the price. They just don?t know what they're doing at the Rio. It's a gouging operation.?
Also criticized was the Horseshoe casino and the slot clubs at the Park Place Entertainment properties.
Steve Bourie, author of the annual ?American Casino Guide?, had the final word.He advised, ?A quality casino is well-maintained and clean, offers better games and its employees treat people well.? He emphasized, ?You are in the business of slowly taking players' money from them. At least you could be pleasant about it.?
